The Sight Edition of the Together We Can Contest Series is now closed. Learn more about Lions Clubs International Foundation's (LCIF) efforts to prevent avoidable blindness and restore sight below.
Since 1968, LCIF has supported the service of Lions worldwide through grant funding. Our foundation enables some of the largest-impact humanitarian efforts that Lions undertake.
LCIF's sight programs include developing and improving eye care systems, providing sight-restoring surgeries and treatments, and distributing medications to those most at risk for eye diseases.
Trachoma is one of the oldest known infectious diseases, and repeated infections have led to irreversible blindness in about 8 million people, with another 84 million cases of active disease in need of treatment. Children and women in the poorest and most remote areas of Africa, Asia, South and Central America, the Middle East and Australia are the most susceptible.
LCIF's SightFirst program has been fighting trachoma since 1999, and is part of a global effort to eliminate this preventable eye disease as a public health threat by 2020. Through partners like The Carter Center, Pfizer and the International Trachoma Initiative, LCIF has already supported the delivery of more than 258 million doses of Zithromax,© an antibiotic used to treat trachoma, trained more than one thousand surgeons, and completed more than 400,000 trichiasis surgeries.
This contest ran from November 28 through December 31, 2017. Lucky winners to this and other months' contests will receive an exclusive LCIF 50th Anniversary medal, plus an invitation to LCIF recognition events at the Lions Clubs International Convention in Las Vegas (travel and convention registration not included).
Congratulations to the winners of the Together We Can Contest: Sight Edition! Enter this month's contest for your chance to join them.
